Oona Claire Shotwell, PsyD
Dr. Shotwell, a licensed psychologist, earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology magna cum laude from Kenyon College in 2007, and her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Widener University in 2012. As a psychotherapist, Dr. Shotwell has experience working with people of many different backgrounds, ages, challenges, and strengths. She specializes in working with clients age 18 and older. For her dissertation, she completed an empirical study of self-care among mental health practitioners. Self-care is a topic of great interest and importance to Dr. Shotwell in her own life and in her therapeutic work. Her professional work has been greatly influenced by the philosophy of psychologist Carl Rogers, who said, “the good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.” Dr. Shotwell believes that change can only occur when an individual is truly motivated to make adjustments to improve his or her life, with support and self-care. She welcomes clients who are ready to examine the causes of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and who are willing to receive constructive feedback and engage in dialogue about how they can make positive improvements in their lives.
